But here’s the reality: when everyone’s carrying the same box, no one knows when it’s been delivered.
The Problem:
No clear accountability means:
One team I worked with had six people “responsible” for a major project. I asked, “Who’s actually accountable for this?”
Cue awkward silence.
No wonder the project was stuck in limbo.
The Solution:
I introduced them to the Accountability Chart. It’s not a job description; it’s a crystal-clear map of who owns what. I said, “Think of it like a relay race. If no one knows who’s holding the baton, the team falls apart.”
We broke the business into its main functions (Sales, Operations, Finance, etc.), assigned one person accountable for each function, & clarified their Rocks (90-day priorities) & measurables.
The lightbulb moment?
They realised accountability doesn’t mean you have to do everything—it means you’re responsible for making sure it gets done. Delegation is still allowed (and encouraged)!
The Results:
Within 60 days:
✅ Projects were getting finished.
✅ Everyone knew their lane & could focus on their Rocks.
✅ The leadership team felt less overwhelmed.
The Takeaway:
Accountability = clarity = progress.
