Why going against the grain might just save your business.

On the plane home from Melbourne, I was watching the movie Heretic.
It got me thinking… what does heretic actually mean?
Turns out, it’s someone who challenges the accepted beliefs, who dares to go against the grain.
And that’s when this article came to mind.
Being labelled a heretic used to get you burned at the stake.
These days, it might just mean you’re the one brave enough to call out the sacred cows in your business, the ones holding you back.
Here’s the thing:
Sound familiar?
I’ve worked with leadership teams who were one tough decision away from real traction, but fear of challenging the norm kept them stuck.
Once they embraced their inner heretic, things shifted.
Fast.
So, here’s my challenge to you:
What’s one thing in your business that everyone accepts… but deep down, you know isn’t working?
Go on. Question it. Challenge it.
Give yourself permission to lead differently.
Because in business, a little heresy can go a long way.

I used to be an avid reader, but in more recent times, I’ve let it slip…
Right now, I’m spending the Anzac Weekend at a peaceful little retreat in Tāwharanui, one of my favourite places to recharge.
The last time I came to this cabin retreat, I picked up the book on the left from the cabin’s bookshelf purely out of curiosity: The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson.
I consumed it within 2 days!
It was so hilarious & engaging that it got me back into reading, which I’m very grateful for.
Fast forward to this weekend.
I wandered over to the same bookshelf in the cabin & have seen that there’s now a sequel…
Guess my books will be going home with me because I’ve got 2.5 days to consume the new book. 📕📖
It’s funny how small moments like picking up a book at a cabin can bring back something you didn’t realise you were missing.
What’s something that you’ve let slip because you got busy?
