Think of it like a glass of water filled with silt. If you keep shaking it, it stays cloudy. Sit still, let everything settle, & suddenly things become clear.
Once your brain settles, you can start asking questions, let the pen flow & see where it takes you.
How Often Should You Do It?
I used to do clarity breaks monthly, or sometimes every couple of months. But now that I’m doing them weekly, I can honestly say it’s game-changing.
Options: daily, weekly, fortnightly or monthly. But no less than an hour. The first 15–30 minutes are just letting the silt settle. The real clarity, the gold, comes after that.
How I Do It
- First 10 minutes: empty my head. All the to-dos, thoughts & random ideas.
- Then: ask myself questions & choose what I want to focus on.
- Finally, let the pen flow.
And yes, my clients often fight me on this. They’ll say, “But I already get clarity when I’m walking, cycling or driving to work.”
No. Those are great activities, but they’re not clarity breaks. You can’t be doing anything else at the same time. (Except, apparently, absorbing oxygen!)
Why It Works So Well
That’s why the hyperbaric chamber has been magic for me. It forces me to stop, to focus & to create space for my best thinking. I get the health benefits & the clarity at the same time.
If you’ve been putting off clarity breaks, consider this your nudge.
Start small. Grab a pen & a notebook. Give yourself an hour.
You’ll be amazed at what comes out once the silt settles.
If you’d like a copy of the questions, I recommend asking yourself during a clarity break. Just send me an email at debra@businessaction.com.au & I’ll happily send them through.
