Better Business, Better Life – Issue 212

I’m heading back to Perth for client sessions, & while I’m there, I’m running a workshop that I’m genuinely excited about.

Not because it’s another workshop.

Because the topic is one I see every single week.

Business owners who are working incredibly hard, doing all the right things, yet somehow finding growth feels heavier than it used to.

The team is bigger.

Revenue is higher.

The opportunities are there.

But things that used to feel simple now feel complicated.

Decisions take longer.

Issues keep resurfacing.

The founder is carrying more than they should.

And despite all the effort, it can feel like the business is pushing back.

If you’ve ever found yourself thinking, “This shouldn’t be this hard,” you’re not alone.

That’s exactly why I’m running Are You Hitting the Ceiling in Your Business? – It’s a practical workshop for business owners & leadership teams who know there’s another level available but can’t quite see what’s getting in the way.

Date: Friday, 3rd July 2026
Time: 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Venue: 9A Bishop St, Jolimont WA 6014

And if you’re not in Perth but know someone who is, I’d really appreciate you sharing it with them.

Some of my favourite client relationships have started with someone saying, “I think you should meet Debra.“

BUSINESS TOOLS & REAL-LIFE LESSONS

When Doing It All Yourself Stops Working

Most founders have a moment where they realise the old way simply will not get them to the next level. Justine’s moment arrived after two years of pushing harder & achieving less. Her business looked successful from the outside, yet inside she was exhausted, stuck & dangerously close to giving up.

She described it perfectly:

“I built this thing, but I couldn’t move it another inch.”

She even tried to solve it the way many owners do

She read Get a Grip.

She spent two focused days working through the tools.

She felt productive & inspired.

Then Monday arrived & the whirlwind swallowed everything.

That’s the pattern I see in most EOS® self-implementers.

A burst of energy.

A few filled-in worksheets.

Then the weight of the business takes over & nothing sticks.

Why?

Because tools don’t implement themselves.

People don’t hold themselves accountable in areas they avoid.

Founders can’t coach themselves through their own blind spots.

When Justine finally reached out, she said, “I can see what this system could do, but I cannot do it alone.”

That was the turning point.

Why She Hit The Ceiling (And Why So Many Founders Do Too)

The ceiling appears for the same reasons every time:

  • The founder is running too many seats on The Accountability Chart®
  • There are no clear priorities
  • Issues keep resurfacing because root causes aren’t being found
  • Meetings are just conversations, not decision-making engines
  • Everything still relies on the owner

Justine had all five.

She wasn’t failing.

She was simply doing what every overwhelmed visionary does: reacting.

The tools that got her unstuck:

1. Clarity Break

This was the one she resisted most. I pushed for two years before she finally committed. Once she started taking them, she saw where she’d been getting in her own way. Clarity breaks help you identify patterns you’re too busy to notice.

2. Quarterly Planning

Instead of chasing fifty priorities, she committed to three to seven focused Rocks every ninety days. Suddenly, the team moved in the same direction & decisions became easier.

3. Level 10 Meeting®

Her meetings went from chatty therapy sessions to structured leadership time where issues were solved properly. It stopped chaos from creeping back in.

4. IDS®

She learned to dig deep instead of reacting to symptoms. This was the hardest shift. Visionaries want to jump to solutions. IDS® forced her to slow down long enough to get things right.

The Shift You Need to Hear

If you’re exhausted, bored, or quietly losing your passion, that is not a sign of personal failure.

It’s a sign you’re doing too much of the wrong work & too little of the work only you can do.

Justine wasn’t stuck because she was weak.

She was stuck because she was human.

If you’re hitting the ceiling, try this:

  • List every role you currently fill
  • Circle the ones only you should be doing
  • Cross out everything else
  • Use Delegate & Elevate® to get the crossed-out work off your plate
  • Choose one Rock for the next ninety days that would give you the most relief
  • Commit to weekly L10™
  • Take a Clarity Break every fortnight

Small moves. Big impact.

And if you’re secretly wondering whether you’re “doing it wrong”, you’re not.

You’ve just outgrown your old way of working.
