WHAT’S INSIDE THIS ISSUE:

Find of the Week:

Here’s this week’s business tip, life hack & find of the week… And don’t forget the inspirational quote, which you can download as a wallpaper or lock screen for your phone.

This weekend I am in Wellington, doing one of my other passions in life – attending the Life Education Trust Conference, as a Trustee. I’ve been doing this Trustee role now for 14 years & it’s one of the things that makes my heart sing.

Can you remember Harold at school? Or do your kids remember him?

We teach kids the stuff they don’t get taught in school & this weekend we’ve being treated to the preview of the new Financial Literacy programme that we’re about to launch. This is a much-needed initiative in schools, in my humble opinion.

Always feel inspired when I attend these conferences, by the huge difference we are making in kids’ lives 💖 If you’d like to support us then visit www.harold.co.nz and make a donation or buy one of our awesome candles – we’re a volunteer organisation and all of the money goes to providing the programmes for our kids!

As always, if you find great things that you’d like to share then feel free to email me for inclusion in one of my weekly newsletters.

BONUS – We’re running a series of events that teach the EOS Model & tools. If you’d like to attend & learn more about EOS, understand how to use the tools plus go home with a workbook & a copy of the Traction book (& a free lunch) then send me an email & I’ll send you a VIP code that will get you either a complimentary ticket or a discounted ticket to the event. See the link to the event at the bottom of the email.

BETTER BUSINESS

Should I hire a family member?

I saw a great post on LinkedIn from one of my fellow EOS Implementers over in the US. Much like me, she specialises in Family Businesses. This is what she shared:

“Lesson learned today. When you let a family member keep working in the family business who doesn’t do their job, you’ll probably lose the family member who does do their job.”

And it’s just so true – I have seen it happen many times. However, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t hire family members. What it does mean is that you should develop structure first & then find the right people for those seats.

And if that’s a family member then that’s great. However, if they’re not performing or are no longer the right person or in the right seat then you have to tackle it – no matter how hard it is!

This article has 3 really useful tips & tools for if you want to hire a family member into the business or if it’s not working out.

BETTER LIFE

Six seconds for a better life!

Ok – since we got sent this tip in an email last week, my husband has been all over me!

And don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining… so what is it that he’s doing?

Well we’re both just focused on making sure that at least twice a day we have a six second kiss.

Sounds simple enough right? And if your partner doesn’t think it’s worth it, just remind them of these benefits:

It can build a ritual of connection.
It can create physical touch.
It can be a bid for connection.
If your partner has initiated, then it’s turning towards your partner.
It boosts fondness and admiration.
It builds appreciation between you.
It can increase your love maps of your partner’s kissing style.
It adds to your emotional bank account.
It can boost your positives for the 5:1 ratio.
It can lead to sex.
It can be self-soothing.
It can reduce cortisol (the “stress” hormone) and boost oxytocin (the “love” hormone).

Steve got excited by one of these – any guesses which one? And so has fully embraced the idea. However, I have had to remind him that it doesn’t mean that every kiss has to be 6 seconds 😁

Read the article for more information.

And just remember that twice per day is only 90 seconds per week – for all of those benefits!

FIND OF THE WEEK

Audible – The Dip by Seth Godin

I was fortunate to drive up to see a potential client this week who was up in Whangarei Heads. A little longer drive than I remembered, especially with traffic, fog & roadworks, but still a really beautiful drive.

And it meant I had 6.5 hours in the car, there & back. Time to listen to a few good audible books.

My favourite for this trip was The Dip by Seth Godin.

It breaks the myth of quitters aren’t winners & talks about when you should quit & when you should keep going.

“In this iconic bestseller, popular business blogger and bestselling author Seth Godin proves that winners are really just the best quitters. Godin shows that winners quit fast, quit often, and quit without guilt–until they commit to beating the right Dip. Every new project (or job, or hobby, or company) starts out fun…then gets really hard, and not much fun at all. You might be in a Dip–a temporary setback that will get better if you keep pushing. But maybe it’s really a Cul-de-Sac–a total dead end. What really sets superstars apart is the ability to tell the two apart. Winners seek out the Dip. They realize that the bigger the barrier, the bigger the reward for getting past it. If you can beat the Dip to be the best, you’ll earn profits, glory, and long-term security.

Whether you’re an intern or a CEO, this fun little book will help you figure out if you’re in a Dip that’s worthy of your time, effort, and talents. The old saying is wrong–winners do quit, and quitters do win.”

I found it well worth the 1 hour & 32 minutes that the audible book takes.

INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE

Given the theme of family business, I quite like this quote I found.

Family – like branches on a tree, we all grow in different directions, yet our roots remain as one.

You can download this a wallpaper or lock screen for your phone.
